Exploring Dental Decoding Within the Concept of Psychogenealogy

In a blog from November 2016, we introduce and discuss the concept of Psychogenealogy and interviewed subject matter expert Jason Kelly Thompson.

In this blog, we’ll dig a little deeper into the concept specific to dental decoding.

Psychogenealogy is based on ideas discovered by Psychoanalyst Carl Jung of Switzerland who recognized connections between clients and their ancestors beyond the typical family tree with names and dates in their genealogy.  In his own life, too, he had the feeling that he was completing actions left by his ancestors or even following the destiny of someone in his tree.

It’s a technique that allows us to discover the invisible loyalties that are interfering with our goals and dreams. Because the loyalties are in the unconscious, the person does not know that blocks and challenges are coming from their family tree.

Within psychogenealogy is the practice of dental decoding. It’s believed that former emotional and physical stresses of our ancestors are manifested in the teeth, including the roots.

Jason Kelly Thompson, who specializes in Psychogenealogy and Biological Decoding, explains what dental decoding is and how it’s an important aspect of a psychogenealogy therapy session.

What is Dental Decoding?

Dental Decoding isn’t the activity of going to a dentist and having a dental professional clean or provide maintenance on a tooth or set of teeth.

Dental Decoding is looking deeper into the physical structure and alignment of a tooth at a metaphysical level to our ancestors to find underlying loyalties. It’s a tool for learning more about yourself.

Teeth can tell stories of wounds and pain (emotional and physical) that can be traced back to life events of our ancestors.

What is the purpose specific to dental decoding?

teeth numberingThe process of dental decoding is to become aware, resolve and heal the wounds or issues given to us from our ancestors.

The enamel of a tooth contains microcrystals. It’s through these microcrystals that emotional and physical energy flows. It was Dr. Christian Beyer who discovered that by feeling his teeth and the teeth of others, he could feel and sense the vibration to determine what the meaning of each tooth was along with the story it was trying to tell.

The structure of a person’s mouth is broken down into two halves and each tooth has a specific number assignment (1-32). Wisdom teeth are tooth numbers 1, 16, 17 and 32. Tooth number 1 is the wisdom tooth starting on the upper right side of a person’s mouth.

In dental decoding, the left side a person’s mouth is designated as the paternal side (right) and the maternal side (left).

Right – Men – Men of the “Clan” Left – Women of the “Family”
14, P1 – Father / Fraternal love 24, P1 – Mother / Partner’s love
15, P2 – Betrayal / Frustration 25, P2 – Deception, Injustice / Jealousy, Envy
16, M1 – The leader of a clan, gives direction 26, M2 – The motherly “heart of the family”
17, M2 – How the men in a clan look at or recognize another person in the clan person 27, M2 – How the women in a clan look at or recognize another person in the clan person
Extra teeth (a.k.a. supernumerary teeth) can represent a lost child in terms of miscarriages, abortions, adoptions.

We, as people, are connected to our mother’s tree, or the family, through the uterus and the uteri or uteruses of the mothers before her.

Teeth are also identified for protection, vulnerability, sweetness and other emotions.

What is required for Dental Decoding?

  1. 180° or panoramic dental X-rays that have been taken preferably before orthodontic treatments, wisdom teeth removal or major cosmetic repairs. Having dental X-Rays before any major dental work or cosmetic will give the dental decoding professional a raw look at how each tooth developed and aligns with other teeth in a person’s mouth. If you have had 180° or panoramic dental X-rays taken within the past 5-10 years, your dentist may still have them on file depending on the duration of their retention policies.PGC611
  1. A dental specialist familiar with psychogenealogy who can analyze the X-rays and the structure and placement of each specific tooth and root.
  2. A specialist of psychogenealogy such as Jason Kelly Thompson who can analyze the report from the dental specialist and review a person’s ancestry to find relevant events or information.

Who Benefits from Dental Decoding?

Anyone can benefit from dental decoding but specifically, those requiring significant dental work or those who may feel subconsciously excluded or disconnected may benefit from a dental decoding session.

  • Cavities represent an active conflict that needs to be resolved in the person’s life or that of their ancestor.
  • Crowns follow an unsuccessful cavity treatment.
  • Implants could be the result of an unsuccessful cavity filling or crown treatment.

Crowns and implants can imply that the active conflict wasn’t resolved successfully.

The question one could ask is “why did the cavity treatment fail?” Looking beyond the typical explination of why a person gets a cavity in a tooth, what is going on in a person’s life, maybe even at the subconscious level, which caused this cavity to occur that this person needs to resolve in some way?

  • Fractured teeth are the result of a conflict resolution and happen shortly after a conflict was resolved…. often within hours or days of a resolution.
  • Periodontal disease, tooth infections, tumors, etc. that don’t heal properly or are recurring. Why does it keep coming back?
  • Orthodontics where teeth and roots are aligned for cosmetic and functional purposes. Why are teeth aligned the way that they are? Does it go back to subconscious feelings of not being protected?

Decoding before a treatment can improve the success of the treatment because the active conflict will be acknowledged and hopefully resolved. It’s not a requirement and doesn’t guarantee success but it helps with the mental understanding of why situations occur and then will ideally help the physical self-heal appropriately.

Thompson received his B.A. degree at Davidson College, M.A. in Latin American studies at the University of Texas, and Ph.D. in economics at the University of Massachusetts. As a professor at Davidson 1981-84, Thompson realized he enjoyed counseling his students better than teaching economic theory. He went back to school and received a master’s degree in psychology. As a therapist, Thompson specialized in marriage and family therapy in San Diego. Jason is writing a book It Was Not Your Fault! Decoding Your Life with Psychogenealogy to be published in 2019.

He studied for two years with Louise L. Hay and founded the Personal Growth Center in San Diego in 1985. In 1986 Jason was initiated in Reiki and is a Reiki master Usui Shiki Ryoho. He was trained as a Family Constellation therapist at the Hellinger Center of Family Constellations – Uruguay, 2006-2008. He studied NLP and Ericksonian Hypnosis including workshops with Paul Carter at the Esalen Institute. NLP and meditation are an integral part of Jason´s technique. Jason teaches Psychogenealogy and gives Family Constellation workshops and Total Biology, Psychogenealogy and Dental Decoding consultations. He teaches in San Diego, Seattle, Miami, Uruguay and Brazil. Check out his informative videos on his website.
